The villain.

Last (calendar) year, we decided we needed a second printer, preferably color. Our existing printer is a Brother HL-2395dw, a black and white laser printer that also scans and copies. It has been awesome with high Wife Acceptance Factor, and she is taking it to her workspace. So I go on Marketplace and start looking for something else. I find this HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476dw for $100, and it even comes with an extra toner set. Great.

I drive up to Sacramento to pick it up, and the lady says she'd been using it regularly, except it now jams a lot. Alright, I think, it's probably just some rollers that need replacing. I get this thing home and set it up, and indeed, it seems to jam any time I print more than one page. It keeps picking up a second sheet. So I get on eBay and order replacement rollers for it, and after installing them, the same thing happens. Phooey. At least it scans. But I can tell even if it could pick up paper competently, the spool time is an eternity compared with the Brother. Oh did I mention it also weights like 70 pounds?

So last week I pop into one of the many thrift stores in Jackson, and I see this Brother HL-2340dw for $4.99. Ok, why not, if it's really just $5. Turns out it was half off, so I left them $3 and called it good. Now this thing is truly amazing. I plug it in, and I think: Oh shit, now I have to set up wifi. I bet I'll need a Windows machine to do that. Nope. Brother has a Mac OS app where you just plug it in, and it configures the wifi. Amazing. And it prints as quickly as the other Brother. AND it uses the same toner cartridges as the other Brother.

The hero.

So: fuck HP. Even their pro printers are shit. Brother all the way.
