Yesterday we went to the Miller Mud Boggs to watch the tomfoolery. It's hard to travel efficiently with a 4 month old in tow, but we made it there before lunch time at least, and we managed to see almost all of the redneck car race and several other events. We went last year for their Valentine's day event. I guess this is turning into a tradition. Baby Cameron was not having it with the loud noises, and today he is beet red sunburned. Next year, we have to bring a shade tent. Which also means not bringing the XJ, since it has the cargo capacity of a lawn mower (seriously, even the Mercury Milan holds more).

Redneck car race lineup

This year's events were much more focused on racing; all the other events have been more of a stuckfest. And somehow it never occurred to me, but this is really a rich man's hobby. It's one thing to race a complete shitbox that you pulled out of an impound lot, but to add a lift kit, a new engine, custom body work, and still call it "redneck" is disingenuous. Not that it's not fun to watch, but it becomes a completely different sport. While there is an authenticity to the Stuckfests held at La Grange OHV, the organization and production value at the Mud Boggs is far superior. I'm on the fence about whether I want to go to La Grange ever again.
